Odense Central Library is one of the largest public libraries in Denmark, located in the middle of the country
The Central Library is placed at the railway station, while there are another seven departments located in the suburbs.
The Music Library is located in Brandts Klædefabrik in the cultural centre of the city.
The Local History Department is close to the Cathedral at Klosterbakken next to the City hall.
We have more than 1 mio. materials are available.

Computer use at the library
In all branches computers are available for the library users.
Internet access is free of charge.
Computers can be booked in advance on the library homepage or at the library.
Computers may not be used to access homepages with racist, violent or pornographic contents. Requests from the library staff must be followed.
Register and get a free library card
A Danish Health Insurance Card or a personal library card is needed to take out materials from the library. The library card can be issued and used in all branches.
To issue a library card you must bring valid identification including your central public registry number (CPR-number). The CPR-number is used in the library's administration of borrowers.
Persons with permanent address in certain municipalities must use a regular library card (instead of the Health Insurrance Card). Please, ask at your local library.
Persons with permanent address outside Denmark or those who do not have a Health Insurance Card can get a regular library card by showing valid identification (passport, White Card etc.).
Institutions and companies can get a special library card. This card is subject to a separate set of rules. Ask at the library.
Library card is personal
The library card is personal, and you are responsible for all materials registered on your card. The library is not liable for any damage caused by borrowed materials to music systems or videos.
Lost or damaged library cards
Lost or damaged library cards should be reported to the library immediately, to prevent misuse.
A new library card can be issued by paying a small fee.
Personal code for online use and taking out materials
You get a personal code to access the library system. Use the code to, e.g. check loan status at our website or when using the self check automats.
Notification by e-mail to collect reserved materials
When reserved materials are available, the library will send a notification by e-mail.
If you prefer to get the notification by letter, you must pay the postage (do not apply to children under the age of 14).
No postage is charged for reserved audio books and certain other materials. Please, ask at your local library.
Loans
Materials are freely available on loan. Please note that some materials can only be used at the library.
Loan periods
30 days is the usual loan period. Certain materials may have a shorter or longer loan period.
Deadline for returning the material borrowed is found on the loan receipts and on your personal status on the library homepage. Be sure to login to access your personal information.
Loans can be renewed up to five loan periods, if the material is not reserved for other users.
Online renewals of materials using your personal code is recommended. Telephone renewal is also possible.

In the case of misuse or failing payments of a total of 500 DKK or more, the library may withdraw your right to borrow temporarily.
Lost or damaged materials
If material is damaged or lost, compensation must be paid on the basis of the repurchase price and preparatory costs.
The library can claim compensation for a full set in case of multi-volume sets that are only sold as a full set - even if only one volume has been lost/damaged.
When compensation has been paid, the material remains property of the library.
Refund of compensation
Materials that are returned to the library within a year of the compensation will be refunded by the library. The materials must be intact and you must bring the original receipt of compensation.
